The open endorsement of Nana Akufo-Addo for a third attempt at Presidency in 2016 by some stalwarts of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) stems from of a lack of principle within the party, says Kwesi Pratt Jnr.
The Editor of the Insight newspaper believes the open support for Nana Akufo-Addo by the party's General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie (Sir John), "who is going to play a very key role in the selection of the Presidential candidate [if the party goes to congress]" is bad.
He asked: "how can other persons who aspire to lead the party feel comfortable...when the General Secretary has already declared that he is going to work for one of the contestants?"
A stalwart of the party, Dr Kwame Amoako-Tuffour and Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Frederick Fredua Antoh, have all made passionate appeals to the rank and file of the party for Nana Akufo-Addo to lead them in the 2016 general elections.
But speaking on Radio Gold's Alhaji and Alhaji on Saturday September 7, Mr Pratt said the lobbying for Nana Akufo-Addo is a major indictment on the party's principles.
"This situation clearly suggests that there would be no fairness in the contest. [But] I'm not surprised at all that Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, who was a Presidential aspirant sometime ago and who I believe is still interested in the position, despite his public denials has come strongly...[to say] Sir John should be brought to book", stated Mr Pratt.
He noted that it was important for all political parties in the country to be mindful of public sentiments when choosing a leader for their party "both in terms of the standard of leaders and in terms of the task ahead."
