The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Nana Akufo-Addo is accusing government of deliberately collapsing the National Health Insurance Scheme in the Ashanti Region.
The scheme is facing some challenges in the region following attempts by the National Health Insurance Authority to pilot the reformed capitation policy in the region.
The capitation policy which began in January 1, 2012, ties a subscriber down to one service provider or hospital for at least six months with the view to eliminating corruption in the implementation of the policy.
A member of the NHIA Board, Dr Abbah Foli, justified the selection of the Ashanti Region for the pilot project insisting if the NHIS is able to handle the challenges in the region it would have solved the national problem.
However, the implementation of policy has faced huge challenges with many stakeholders in the region kicking against it.
Addressing party supporters in the Asawase constituency in the Ashanti Region as part of his restore hope campaign tour, the NPP flagbearer minced no words in chiding the ruling party for piloting the policy in the region.
He could not understand why a region with the highest number of subscribers to the NHIS will be chosen to pilot such a delicate policy.
He explained a policy is piloted using a small group to see how feasible it will be and not the largest.
He entreated people in the region to vote massively for the NPP so that it will reverse the policy and put it back on the right track.
Joy News’ correspondent Benjamin Tetteh who is with the NPP flagbearer said the campaign team is now at the Kwabre East constituency interacting with arts and crafts producers.
He reported the NPP flagbearer as saying an NPP government will put measures in place to ensure that arts and craft producers will benefit immensely from their trade.
Nana Addo also promised to improve upon the cocoa spraying exercise in the region to ensure increased cocoa production in the region.
