The National Athletics Team is beaming with confidence ahead of their participation in the Africa Athletics Championship which starts on July 28 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The team comprising 15 athletes left Accra last night to compete in the five day event. Aziz Zakari who won gold in the men’s 100 and 200 metres events at the Championship in 2000 will contest in the 100m event.
Ignatius Gaisah who picked up a gold medal in the long jump event at the Championship in 2006 will join Robert Martey to vie for honours in this year’s long jump event.
Margaret Simpson will also contest in the heptathlon event. Coach of the Ghana Athletics Team, Albert Nupkleza is confident of his side’s medal prospects.
“Morale in camp is high and I can assure you that we are going to bring medals,” he told Joy Sports.
He expects medals in the 100m and 200m male events as well long jump
