The National Economic Forum expected to end Friday, will end today.
Reasons for curtailing the four day program is unclear.
The National Economic Forum is a 400-strong assembly of economic experts- some former governors of the Bank of Ghana and former finance ministers, lead civil society voices and some local think-tanks.
The four-day non-partisan forum is themed, ‘Changing the Narrative: National Consensus for Social Transformation,’ is also expected to come out with ideas for a “sustainable path that guarantees improvements in the quality of life for all Ghanaians,” a release issued by Government last week said.
They have been examining government's expenditure pattern, the wage bill which government is worried is eating away revenue already low.
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) would have none of the discussion and have boycotted the forum.
Friday's session has been cramped into today's and President John Mahama is expected to close the program this evening.
Joy News' Evans Mensah detailed the plan for today. He said there will be several plenary sessions and break-up sessions.
It will culminate in an open forum. The Vice-President Kwesi Amissah Arthur will deliver a speech after which a communique is expected to be issued.
Evans Mensah reported, participants were seen busy poring over documents, doing research late last night and into the dawn. A plenary session went deep into the night.
Senior Policy Adviser at the Presidency Dr. Sulley Gariba called the forum "a challenging task" but was "amazed at the energy levels" of the participants and praised them for discharging their duty to "self and country".
