A UK-based Ghanaian doctor has chastised the New Patriotic Party and the ruling National Democratic Congress for failing to live up to the expectations of Ghanaians because of poor policies and programmes.
Dr. Edward Kwame Poku, a Consultant Physician Specialist observed that the country cannot progress when unemployment and poverty continue to torment Ghanaians.
The medical doctor who describes himself as a founding member of the NDC, pointed out that the people cannot be happy under such circumstances.
Dr. Poku is billed to speak at a public lecture in Kumasi on Friday, to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the June 4 Uprising of 1979.
He is irritated that after more than 50 years of independence, Ghana is still battling with poverty and high unemployment.
Dr. Poku accuses former President J.A. Kufuor and his successor, President J.E.A. Mills of failing to formulate coherent policies and programmes to improve the lot of Ghanaians.
"I have not seen any coherent policy that the government has introduced and I have told the President personally….
"The mere fact that I say we are not moving forward relate not only to President Mills, I think Kufuor is equally guilty," he explained.
He is unhappy a proposal he personally sent to President Mills on how to improve living conditions in the country has not been implemented.
"I think in a country where about 80 percent of the people are jobless, people are poor in this country, it should not be. Today people are carrying things on their head to sell in this heat. That must go," Dr. Poku emphasized.
Friday’s lecture which is under the theme, "Political Ideology of June 4 and its Relevance in Ghana," is expected to draw national and regional executives of the NDC to the Salisburg Hotel.
