The National Democratic Congress has accused the police of bias and dereliction of duty in the recent clashes in Gushiegu which claimed three lives.
“The attitude of the police in responding to the suffering of the people raises concern about national security.
"Our reports also show the police went to protect the houses of known top NPP personalities in the mist of the clashes.”
The accusation is part of a report of a fact finding mission dispatched to the region to assess the causes of the clashes.
Unveiling the details of the report to the media, Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia also took a swipe at the NPP for ignoring warning signals from the District BNI officer to postpone a rally, since it would clash with an NDC programme.
“NPP supporters attacked the NDC, throwing stones into the crowd and as result injured a young girl.”
“When she was rushed to the Gushiegu health centre, the DCE ordered the Doctors not to attend to the young girl since the hospital was not built by the NDC” he narrated.
He said the attack was unjustified and called on the government to get to the bottom of the clashes and prosecute the culprits.
But Nana Ohene Ntow General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party says “these are concoction of lies by the NDC."
Responding to the allegations on Joy Fm news night Ohene Ntow maintained he together with the top hierarchy of the NPP in the company of the police was in the Region to assess the situation, and the findings were contrary.
According to him the whole clashes were sparked by an attack on NPP supporters in Kpatinga by a group of disgruntled NDC supporters from Gushiegu.
“NPP supporters were mounting their shed when a group of NDC supporters drove motor bikes into them, broke down the shed and beat them up.
According to him an NPP executive had his house ambushed by NDC supporters, subjected his household to severe beating before setting the his motor bike ablaze.
“A young and old man had gun shot wounds inflicted on them which they displayed to everybody” he added
He noted, the burning of houses and trucks belonging to the NDC executive in Gushiegu were believed to be reprisal attacks.
He challenged Joy Fm to conduct its own independent investigation on the matter, adding he is a man of integrity and would not engage in deceit.
He said the crises in Tamale should not be reduced to media allegations, and implored the police to expedite investigations into the matter.
