The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has held on to the Amenfi West Constituency in the Western Region, beating the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) by over a two thousand votes.
Certified Electoral Commission (EC) results from all 102 polling stations put NDC’s candidate, Eric Afful, ahead in Tuesday's by-election with 15,809 votes (52.64%) while his main contender, the NPP’s Paul Derkyi, obtained 13,076 votes (43.54%).
Abraham Kwadwo Buadee of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and United Front Party’s Elvis Adjei, polled 1,032 and 113 votes respectively.
Voter turnout was 49% of the total 62,364 registered voters in the constituency, reports Joy News' correspondent William Benjamin Peters.
The Amenfi seat became vacant following the death NDC Member of Parliament, Mr John Gyetuah.
The constituency has always voted for NDC Parliamentary candidates.

However, in 2004 the seat fell to the NPP’s Agnes Samfo after then NDC Parliamentarian, Kofi Asante, resigned in 2003.
