The Presidential Candidate of the Convention People’s Party in the 2008 elections has played down on the increasing chaos and disunity in the party.
Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom told Myjoyonline.com the current problems facing the CPP are “minor” as compared to the crisis that characterized both the New Patriotic Party and the ruling National Democratic Congress prior to their respective Congresses.
He said the CPP will solve its own problems soon after Congress.
Nduom, and the CPP Chairman Ladi Nylander have been accused of attempting to manipulate the Western Region Congress over the weekend.
The Regional Chairman Samuel Etoro told Joy News both men were to blame for the abrupt end of the Congress.
In a sharp rebuttal, Nduom said people should not “mask their own incompetencies” and blame others for it.
He explained he, like other leaders of the CPP - Dr Delle, Samia Nkrumah - was at the Western Region to see to a successful organization of the Regional Congress and not to foment trouble.
If the Congress ended abruptly, it could also mean the chairman was afraid of losing his position, he jabbed.
Dr. Nduom also blamed Samuel Etoro for not doing a thorough job in the organization of the Regional Congress, saying the party has just witnessed a Congress which was “beautifully organized in Cape Coast”.
Dr Nduom played down on the increasing factionalism rearing its head in the party.
He conceded however that like other CPP leaders, he has “friends” contesting the Western Region Chairman but that, he said, should not be the reason for the disruption of Congress.
The 2008 Presidential Candidate called for healthy competition in the party, urging that the issue party be resolved internally.
