The presidential candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has promised the business community that his administration will take pragmatic measures to improve the business climate to enable investment in job creation in the country for the good of the country, when given the nod to become the next president.
Addressing the Ghana Employers Association (GEA) in Accra on Tuesday August 19, 2008, Dr. Nduom pointed out; “we will improve Ghana’s business climate to enable investment in job creation so that our people will stay at home to help develop the country and its economy.”
These steps, he disclosed, will include the use of government purchasing power to ensure that the country eats what it produces. He further said that, “the CPP will support Ghanaian industry and our farmers and fishermen with low interest loans, technical assistance, tax incentives and priority access to the Ghanaian market
According to the presidential candidate of the CPP, his personal experience will also not only make businesses in the country highly competitive, but more importantly, lead to the creation of markets in Africa and abroad.
The presidential candidate of the CPP stressed that it is his firm belief “to create a just and disciplined society with the ability to move the nation from the Third World to the First World.” This, he said, will be accompanied by broad-based improvements in social indicators, such as infant mortality, maternal mortality and life expectancy when his party is given the mandate to mange the affairs of this country.
To achieve these goals, Dr. Nduom pointed out that, an Nduom-led presidency will accelerate industrialization and the development of our human resources. He observed that, for the country to come out of the doldrums of poverty, his administration “will use science and technology to build the necessary human capital for industrialization and social progress.”
In this regard, he disclosed that research will be actively supported by his administration with tax incentives given to industries that employ local research to innovate and build industries.
The flag-bearer of the CPP bemoaned the fact that the country over the years has been conscious of the solutions to her problems, yet it finds itself wallowing in poverty. He attributed this to the reluctance to act with discipline and a sense of urgency. This trend, he said, will change since he offers a leadership “that will work with a sense of urgency to do what needs to be done quickly”.
Paa Kwesi Nduom also pointed out that energy which is an essential resource to employers will receive the highest level of attention under his presidency. He added that within four years of his presidency, he will ensure that the country meets its energy requirement and also become a net exporter of power.
Continuing, Dr Nduom urged Ghanaians to examine the achievements of the contesting presidential hopefuls in terms of what they have been able to accomplish and vote for the best out of the lot. He also used the platform to renew his call for all the presidential aspirants of the contesting parties to debate on the same platform.
That, he said will enable the electorate to compare and “judge us by the content of our vision and our character.”
