Management of Students Bridging the Information Gap (SBIG), a US-based NGO, at the weekend inaugurated a computer laboratory and library estimated at 50,000 dollars for the inmates of Good Shepherd Orphanage , at Kasoa in the Central Region. It donated 18 desktop computers, a laptop computer, a laser printer, an LCD projector, a battery pack, furniture and books to help the inmates and other children build on their knowledge through reading. Mr. Tom Killian, President of SBIG, said the world is now in an Information, Communication Technology age and in order to be effective in the increasingly technology driven economy, every child should be given the opportunity to learn and develop skills in the new field. He said SBIG was an organization that harnessed the humanitarian interests of students, corporate and faith-based partners and other civic groups to support fellow students in less-developed countries. Mr. Killian said management had set up a local advisory committee to operate the computer laboratory. Bishop Kweku Addei, Founder of the Good Shepherd Orphanage and Proprietor of the Good Shepherd International School, thanked the SBIG team and assured them that the facilities would be used to the maximum benefit of the children. Amidst great joy and thankfulness, the children of the Good Shepherd Orphanage and Good Shepherd International School treated the gathering present at the commissioning of the facilities to poetry recitals, drama, and choreography among other entertaining activities.
