A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Voice of the Vulnerable (V.O.V) has presented disinfectants, antibiotics, antiseptics, analgesics, multivitamins, cough syrups and antacids worth GH₵5,000 to the Osu Children’s Home.
Presenting the items, the President of the VOV, Dr Daniel Acorlor said the main vision of the NGO was to serve as a voice for the voiceless and vulnerable in society.
He said the essence is to target all manner of marginalized or helpless people in the society and volunteer to do little acts of good that would make a positive impact in their lives simply by creating awareness.
According to him, it was important that those who were blessed with something were kind enough to reach out to some of these vulnerable persons in the society in order to make them loved and alleviate their plight.
That, he said, would be undertaken by VOV through speaking up peacefully for such vulnerable in society and help prompt and partner with the rich and powerful or influential citizens, political leaders, the media, musicians, celebrities, religious bodies, companies and organizations in order to gather support “as we share our stories and entreat people to join this movement with the hope of a greater positive impact on society.”
According to Dr Acorlor, the presentation of the antiseptics and detergents was to ensure that quite often the common infections that the inmates of such homes were exposed to was minimized.
He expressed optimism that the effort would go a long way in helping the inmates of the Osu Children’s Home live productive lives and grow up into responsible adults who would make contributions to national development.
Receiving the items on behalf of the home the deputy director of the home, Ms Dorothy Pearl Kumah and her colleagues expressed gratitude to VOV.
She was optimistic that the items would go a long way to address the health and sanitation challenges of the home.
She appealed to corporate institutions and individuals who had the means to help the home groom the children into responsible adults.
Items presented were 30 litres of liquid soap, 85 litres of parasol, Metronidazole plus Furazolidone suspension (12 bottles), Ciprofloxacin eye/ear drops (72 packs), antiseptics such as 5 bottles of Povidine Iodine topical solution analgesics which included 70 packs of Navran Tab. Diclofenac plus paracetamol combination.
The Multivitmins included 25 bottles of Apetabon complex. Cyproheptadine plus multivitamin syrup, Zincolac B (Lactobaillins, vitamins plus zinc 20 packs), Vife-z: Capsules of Iron, Zinc and Folic acid 30packs.
The items also included 20 bottle of Cough syrup and 20 bottles of antacids.
