Afi Amezado and Joshua Cosmos from the Ngorli Golf and Goal project were both winners at the just ended Achimota Golf Club Captain’s competition held on December 19, 2020, at the Achimota Golf Club in Accra, Ghana.
Afi won the first position for the Junior Competition-Ladies and Joshua won the first place for the Junior Short Course- Boys.
The keenly contested competition drew over 50 junior golfers from around the country, this reaffirms the commitment of captain and leaders of the Achimota Golf Club to promote the game of golf to children irrespective of their background.
The two-day event also saw many Achimota Golf Club members, professional golfers and friends of the captain from all over the world to participate in the competition. Also sported at the event was Peter of P-Square fame.
The competition which was the first ever for the junior golfers from the Ngorli Golf & Golf project saw seven of their players participate in the competition.
The CEO of the Ngorli Organization Mr. Senyo Sosu was grateful and full of praise for the captain and other leaders of the Achimota Golf Club for their continual support of the Ngorli Golf & Goal project.
“Without the support of the Achimota Golf Club, there will not be the Ngorli Golf & Goal Project because we need the golf course to train our children.”
Ngorli Golf and Goal is community-based partnership project by the Ngorli Organization to attract and engage children in the Achimota Community (Abofu, Anumle, Christian Village, Kissehman, Kofevi, Akweiteman, & Achimota College) to play the game of golf whiles taking education seriously.
The project provides Golf lessons, early intervention and supplemental Literacy and STEM instruction to children/youth, ages 6-17 living in the Achimota communities in Accra, Ghana.
The residents in the Achimota communities need to take advantage of the Achimota Golf club which has Ghana’s only PGA standard course and one of the best golf courses in Africa hence the need for the Golf & Goal project. The passion for golf is already in the communities but we at Ngorli just need to push the education aspect.
Afi and Joshua were both thankful to the Ngorli Organization especially their coaches Mr John Kwashie and Mr John Koblah for the unequivocal support.
