The National Identification Authority (NIA) says it will soon start registering people in their homes as well as offer corporate services at a fee of ¢100 and ¢250 respectively.

Ken Attafuah, Executive Secretary of the Authority disclosed that Parliament has given it the approval to roll-out the packages aimed at generating revenue while ensuring that all Ghanaians register for their national ID card in comfort.

Dubbed the institutional and premium packages, the NIA says individuals or institutions who wish to enjoy these services will do so at a fee.

“Organisations can write to the NIA through the Executive Secretary for us to come and do institutional registration for them. That is at a fee of ¢100 per person.

Also, there is a premium registration, which is available. We set up a centre at a hotel, say Movenpick or Golden Tulip or wherever; and you can go and register at a fee of ¢250.

Speaking in an interview with the host of JoyFM’s Super Morning Show Kojo Yankson, the Chief Executive Officer of the NIA, Ken Attafuah said mass registrations at all centres across the country will, however, remain free.

He explained that the initiative was not only to generate revenue for the NIA since the registration was a public-private arrangement, but to also reach out to corporate workers and individuals who may be unable to visit a centre for the exercise.

“We can come and register at home also at a fee of ¢100 per person. In terms of both, the logistics and distance we cover will also be picked up by the applicant," he said,

Meanwhile, the Authority is currently organizing a mop-up mass registration exercise throughout the country, except in the Eastern Region.

It is expected that a total of 16.7 million Ghanaians would have been registered and issued with Ghana Cards when the mop-up exercise is completed.
