The Africa Center for Digital Transformation (ACDT) has announced that its sustained advocacy for the full integration of the Ghana Card into the country’s financial ecosystem has been positively received and adopted by the National Identification Authority (NIA).
In a recent statement, the NIA confirmed plans to roll out an e-wallet feature on the Ghana Card.
This groundbreaking development will allow the card to function as an ATM card while also serving as a key instrument for advancing digital financial services nationwide.
The announcement marks a milestone achievement following months of policy engagement, thought leadership, and public advocacy by ACDT, which has consistently emphasized the Ghana Card’s potential to serve as a national digital identity, a financial access tool to enhance banking and payments, and a platform for interoperability within Ghana’s digital economy.
Earlier this year, ACDT published several articles and engaged stakeholders to highlight these opportunities.
ACDT commended the NIA for what it described as a forward-looking policy direction and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote digital transformation, financial inclusion, and innovation across Africa.
The group said the development is not only a win for Ghana but also sets an example for other African countries seeking to leverage digital identity systems to accelerate socioeconomic growth.
