Still reeling from the killing of 10 people at a drinking joint in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Monday, two close relatives of the chairman of the council were gunned down in the early hours of Wednesday by assailants suspected to be Fulani herdsmen. Also, the state Police Command has ordered drinking joints in Barkin-Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas to close by 6.00 p.m. while similar joints in Bukuru and Jos metropolis and other local government areas in the state are to close by 7:00 p.m.The Chairman of the council, Honourable Emmanuel Loman who disclosed this to Nigerian Tribune said some people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked Sho village in the early hours of Wednesday rattling the inhabitants who were about settling down for their daily activities.According to him, the gunmen who had laid ambush at various strategic parts of the village opened fire on two of his relations who were on a motorcycle, heading to their farms, killing two of them instantly. It was learnt that the villagers on hearing the sound of the gunshots, mobilised and confronted the invaders who disappeared into the nearby bush. It was further gathered that the natives combed the bush and hills around for several hours, looking for the assailants.Honourable Loma implored the Federal Government to take a critical look at the killings in the local government and devise means of finding a permanent solution to the development adding that the situation has got to a point that assailants raid villages in the area despite the presence of security men in and around the local government. He, however, debunked the statement that he, along with others recently teamed up by contributing money to compensate the Fulani over some cows that were killed by some people, adding that nothing of such happened.
