President John Evans Atta Mills has assured Muslims of a hustle-free Hajj this year.
But he added a caveat – government will provide all the necessary facilities to only Muslims who wish to seek spiritual cleaning and not those who travel for purposes of making profit.
The annual pilgrimage by Muslims to the religious city of Mecca has been dogged by persistent problems sometimes culminating in hundreds of would-be pilgrims failing to make the journey.
But addressing worshipers at this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebration to mark the end of the 30-day Ramadan fasting, the president said the problems of the Hajj were over.
He charged the Muslims to continue to pray for peace and unity in the country. The nation, he observed needs Allah’s guidance and blessings.
The Eid prayers, held at the Elwak Stadium saw a heavy attendance compelling the president to leave his vehicle and to cover the rest of the journey to the venue on foot.
