Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong says Ghanaians should not be bothered about the decision by the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu to resign.
According to him, Mr. Amidu was the wrong choice for the position.
“Nobody should be scared or worried about Martin Amidu’s resignation. If he has resigned so be it, he didn’t do any better work when in office," he said.
Kennedy Agyapong stated that had the New Patriotic Party (NPP) heeded his warning against appointing Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor, the party wouldn't have had its business out in the open.
"Let me say one thing, I told NPP that in the long run he will turn against them and that is what has happened.”
He however added that he was confident his resignation wouldn't have any consequences on the Party come December 7.
“Amidu’s statement won’t affect NPP in any way in the elections," he said.
The business mogul was commenting on a decision by Mr Amidu to resign from his position less than three years after being appointed by President Akufo-Addo.
According to Martin Amidu, he does not feel that President Nana Akufo-Addo has done enough to safeguard the independence of his office, hence his decision to step down.
In his letter addressed to President Akufo-Addo, Mr. Amidu explained that "the events of November 12 removed the only protection I had from the threats and plans directed at me for undertaking the Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions anti-corruption assessment report and dictates that I resign as the Special Prosecutor immediately".
