The New Patriotic Party is unhappy at what it says is the maltreatment being meted to its members by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
The party is addressing a press conference Wednesday afternoon to draw attention to the unfortunate development, the General Secretary of the party has said.
Nana Ohene Ntow told Joy News’ Matilda Asante Asiedu, “We are not saying the BNI does not have a right (to investigate cases), the methods that are being used are what we are going to question.”
“When you say the methods what specifically do you disagree with? Matilda asked, to which Mr. Ntow responded, “Someone comes to, they say invite you, they don’t want to give you their identity, they don’t want to allow you access to counsel, and things like that.”
He said the party does not believe that any of its former ministers deserved to be harassed.
The NPP General Secretary said there was a design use the BNI to harass and intimidate people who are not necessarily guilty of anything.
He said if the former ministers were guilty there are procedures in dealing with them and “in law, procedure is as important as the substance of a case.”
A number of former government officials have been hauled before the BNI to answer questions about their conduct while in office.
Some of the invitations by the BNI have generated huge public controversy and legal challenges in some instances.
The national investigative body Sunday prevented the former Information Minister, Stephen Asamoah Boateng from travelling to the US, saying it intended to invite him for interrogation within the week.
