Special Aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Akosua Asaa Manu Kozie has warned that reckless politics, misinformation, and rising anti-party conduct in the ongoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race pose a serious threat to party unity and risk handing a political advantage to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Kozie expressed concern that the internal contest has veered away from ideas, vision, and policy debate, degenerating instead into personal attacks, falsehoods, and divisive campaigning.

“With exactly 46 days to go, we had hoped to see an end to the lies, vitriol, and insults that have characterised this internal contest. An election that should have been about ideas has been reduced to the basest form of indecency,” she stated.

She expressed particular concern about how some party opponents are exploiting the mediation work being led by Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to mount targeted attacks against Dr. Bawumia, drawing what she described as unfair and dangerous inferences based on his ethnic background.

According to her, attempts to link the Bawku situation to Dr. Bawumia’s identity amount to a reckless politicisation of a sensitive national security matter, with serious implications for national cohesion noting that such tactics not only undermine the credibility of the internal contest but also weaken the NPP’s public standing at a critical moment when unity and discipline are essential.

“As if being anti-party is not enough, some have gone to the extent of working against the country’s effort at creating lasting peace in the Bawku area. Pooh-poohing the efforts of the Asantehene with barefaced and baseless lies just to score political points is reckless. What are we becoming with this conduct?” she asked.

The 2024 NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Adentan Constituency concluded by calling for discipline, accountability, and restraint within the NPP, urging party members to consider the long-term consequences of their actions and to project a version of the party that inspires confidence among Ghanaians as the internal contest draws to a close.

“As a party, we must keep a watchful eye and determine the version of the NPP we want to market to Ghanaians,” she added.

The NPP is expected to elect its presidential candidate in the coming weeks as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
