Henry Nana Boakye, National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has affirmed that the party’s National Executive is fully behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia following his victory in Saturday’s flagbearer polls.
Speaking on JoyNews' The Pulse on Monday, February 2, Mr Boakye said the executive is committed to supporting Dr Bawumia’s leadership and working collaboratively to ensure the NPP returns to power in the 2028 general elections.
He added that party unity and collective effort will be central to achieving the goal of reclaiming governance for the party.
"The leadership of the New Patriotic Party, we also pledged our support to the newly elected presidential candidate, His Excellency Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. He has our support fully, and we are going to collaborate with him fully," he said.
"We will make sure that the entire party is solely behind him to win election 2028," he added.
On Saturday, January 31, the Electoral Commission officially declared Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the winner of the party’s 2028 presidential primary after he secured an outright majority of the valid votes cast.
A total of 196,462 ballots were cast nationwide at 333 voting centres, with 561 ballots rejected. Dr Bawumia secured 110,640 votes.
Results of the NPP flagbearer primary:
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia – 110,640 votes (56.48%)
Kennedy Agyapong – 46,555 votes (23.76%)
Dr Bryan Acheampong – 36,303 votes (18.53%)
Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum – 1,999 votes (1.02%)
Kwabena Agyei Agyepong – 102 votes (0.21%)
