President Kufuor on Saturday enjoined Ghanaians of different political persuasions to accept the outcome of the December poll even if their favoured party loses.
Stressing that political opponents should not be regarded as enemies,the President said: "Prof. Atta Mills is not my enemy and I do not think he considers me as his enemy".
Speaking at a durbar of chiefs and people of the Oguaa traditional area to climax this year's Fetu Afahye, President Kufuor asked Ghanaians to vote for someone who had vision and would ensure the unity of the country.
He said politics was about the expression of divergent views and advised politicians against the use of inflammatory language and threats.
The president stressed that “winning an election is not the end of the world.”
He mentioned the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the School Feeding Programme and the Capitation Grant. as some of the development programmes of his administration.
The Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwasi Atta II, in his welcome address, appealed to President Kufuor to ensure that the dredging of the Fosu Lagoon is given the utmost priority by his successor.
He expressed concern about the poor results of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which he said made it impossible for students from the area to get admission into senior high schools in the region.
He urged parents to invest in the education of their children, ensuring that they take their studies seriously.
Osabarima Kwasi Alla appealed to all political parties to ensure that the current peace in the country was not compromised.
The new Patriotic Party was represented at the function by its vice presidential candidate Dr Mahamadu Bawumia and Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, the campaign director.
The NDC team was led by the flag-bearer, Prof. John Evans Alla Mills, while the flag-bearer of the Convention Peoples Party Dr Paa Kwasi Nduom led the CPP team.
