The Western Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Mohammed Ganiyu, on Wednesday, said the election of President J.E. A. Mills does not pose any threat to the chances of the NPP.
He said the NPP would wrest power from the ruling NDC, despite the election of Professor Mills as the flagbearer.
He said Ghanaians are disillusioned with the administration of the ruling NDC government so far and that the electorate would not hesitate to boot them out of office in next year’s general elections.
Mr Ganiyu told the GNA in an interview in Takoradi that, despite the peaceful nature of the NDC delegates’ congress in Sunyani, it did not put any fears in the rank and file of the opposition NPP.
He said: “We will not be complacent at all in next year’s presidential and parliamentary elections and we shall battle it out with all our might to annex the seat of government from the abortive ruling NDC government.
“The decision by the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings to contest the sitting president for the first time in the annals of the country’s politics, is a clear manifestation that, the NDC government has failed Ghanaians and there is no dispute about it, “he explained.
Mr Ganiyu stressed that, the NPP had re-structured the party to be more vibrant and responsive to the needs of the people, instead of catering for the needs of a few party foot soldiers, as evident in the NDC Government.
The Regional Youth Organiser stressed that, the various social
programmes initiated by the erstwhile NPP administration would be better implemented by the initiators of such programmes and charged the electorate to critically evaluate the administration of the NDC in order to make a good choice in the 2012 polls.
He said although it is good to embark on internal contest in every party to promote democracy, however, the way and manner the NDC carried out its campaign had exposed the weakness in the party.
Mr Ganiyu charged the youth in the party to rally behind the flag
bearer of the party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo to re-capture power to better the lot of the entire citizenry.
