Some angry supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) In Banda and Tain Constituencies of Brong-Ahafo Region on Thursday besieged and locked up the Regional Office of the party in Sunyani.
Numbering about 100, the supporters including women and made up of polling station and constituency executives and electoral area officers, were at the party’s regional office to demand for forms to contest the party’s constituency and polling stations elections slated for November 16 to November 25.
The action of the visibly angry supporters who shouted on top of their voices attracted the attention of passerby’s who thronged the secretariat to catch a glimpse of the action.
Mr Afred Ofori Annye, Regional Secretary of the NPP told the Ghana News Agency he had explained to the supporters that the forms are in the hands of Mr Kwasi Asomah-Cheremeh, Regional Chairman who was not at the party’s office.
Not satisfied with the explanations, the supporters marched to the private office of Mr Asomah-Cheremeh, he said, adding that few minutes later they stormed back, walked him out and locked up the office.
Some of the angry supporters alleged that the party’s Regional Chairman had adopted strategies to deny some of the supporters from contesting the party’s internal elections in the region.
Effort to contact Mr Asomah-Cheremeh proved futile as he failed to pick the several phone calls made to him
