The opposition New Patriotic Party says it will contest every single constituency in the upcoming December elections, including the 45 controversially created constituencies which will mature on Wednesday.
The party is also confident it will win majority of the seats to be contested for in December.
The NPP chairman Jake Obetsebi Lamptey made these revelations to Joy News shortly after Parliament, by a majority decision voted to reject the report by the Subsidiary Legislation Committee which called for the annulment of the controversial CI 78.
The Committee said the CI 78 was still pregnant with mistakes and called for it to be withdrawn by the EC to be re-laid after the corrections have been effected.
But by a majority decision of 81-56, Parliament voted to reject the call by the committee.
The NPP chair was undoubtedly disappointed with the turn of events.
He told Joy News, in all advance democracies across the world, any major change to the elections is done at least six months to the elections.
He could not understand how the Electoral Commission will still allow these new constituencies to be created, despite the many disagreements.
That notwithstanding, the NPP chair said with barely 65 days to go for the elections , the party will still contest in every single constituency and will be successful in majority of them.
General Secretary of the ruling party Johnson Asiedu who was in Parliament was obviously elated by the turn of events.
He said the arguments of wrong electoral areas being made by the NPP to support their call for suspension of the new constituencies were wrong.
According to him, it is the District level elections that make use of electoral areas and not Parliamentary and Presidential elections.
He said the NPP and opponents of the CI 78 made wrong comparisons and therefore had wrong conclusions.
