With recent heavy downpours across the country being anything but normal, NSIA Insurance Ghana has advised car owners and motor users to purchase comprehensive vehicle insurance policies for maximum benefit against floods.
A comprehensive vehicle insurance policy will cover more than a third party policy would, including damages and injuries to third party fatalities, vehicle theft and damage to vehicles by fire or flood, among others.
According to the Managing Director of NSIA Insurance Ghana, Mabel Nana Nyarkoa Porbley, purchasing comprehensive auto insurance covers works out cheaper in the long term as an investment for policyholders.
“Often rapid downpours floods streets and damages cars. If you own a car, you must invest in a comprehensive insurance policy, which covers amongst others, damages made to cars from floods. Doing so ensures that a policy holder is not burdened by costs related to losses incurred by unexpected floods”.
She said most people have been known to buy third-party insurance policies for some quite expensive cars, this she is quoted as saying “it’s inadequate and brings a lot of financial stress to the owners in a mishap”.
Other risks that a comprehensive policy will cover includes; loss or damage to the insured vehicle and its accessories due to fire, explosion, self-ignition or lightning. It also covers burglary and many others.
On an average, the premium for taking that extra cover could be 3.3 percent of the market value of the car.
NSIA Insurance Ghana has rolled out a series of activities aimed at positioning the brand as one that stands for, simplifying the experience of purchasing insurance and redeeming insurance claims among Ghanaians.
