The number of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) deployed by banks at the end of December 2025 declined by 0.5% to 2,272 from 2,283 in 2024.
According to the Bank of Ghana, the decline observed over the period was due to the decommissioning of terminals by some banks to maintain operational efficiency.
The number of Point of Sales (POS) terminals deployed, however, increased by 16.2% to 18,117 at end-December 2025 from 15,597 at end-December 2024.
According to the 2025 Payment Systems Oversight Annual Report, ATMs and POS terminals continue to serve as alternatives for electronic payment and funds transfer services in Ghana.

ATMs and POS Density
The report added that the data on the usage of these devices showed that ATM and POS coverage in Ghana was low.
Using an adult population of 15-64 years, for every 100,000 adults, there were 10 ATMs and 80 POS devices available in 2025. This compares with 10 ATMs and 71 POS devices in 2024.
According to the report, the modest increase in ATMs and POS density largely reflected shifting preferences for mobile money services in the payment ecosystem
