Obuasi East’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye, has donated GH¢180,000 to support victims of the recent clash between AngloGold Ashanti and small-scale miners.
The donation was made during his visit to Obuasi, where he was accompanied by the National Chief Imam. Hon. Aboagye expressed his deep condolences to the affected individuals and wished them a speedy recovery. He assured them of his commitment to advocating for their rights and seeking justice on their behalf.
Addressing the community, Mr Aboagye stated the need for unity and peaceful coexistence, urging the youth to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
He stressed that violence would not solve the dispute and called for dialogue and legal means to address grievances.
The clash between AngloGold Ashanti and small-scale miners has raised concerns over the ongoing tensions between large mining firms and artisanal miners in the region.
Many residents have called for fair resolutions that consider the livelihoods of local miners while ensuring adherence to mining regulations.
Mr Aboagye’s donation is expected to provide much-needed relief to the victims and their families. His gesture has been widely praised by community members, who see it as a demonstration of his commitment to their welfare.
