The office of the Vice President has disassociated itself from an administrator caught up in the special prosecutor’s probe into the imported rice scandal.
James Keck Osei is alleged to have written to the customs division of the GRA directing the release of rice to a businessman, Issah Seidu, who had been accused of using forged documents to attempt to clear another businessman’s rice.
He is said to have claimed the office needed the rice for Ramadan celebrations.
However, following a petition to the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the matter four persons including the administrator at the office of the Vice President had failed to follow an order from the Special Prosecutor to fill out a form indicating their income and properties they own.
The three others are Issah Seidu, who works with the National Insurance Commission, and Customs Officers, John Abban and Peter Archibald.
They have been slapped with the charge of failing to comply with the lawful demand of an authorized officer.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Vice President has indicated that internal investigations have been initiated regarding the conduct of James Keck Osei.
It also stressed that “the facts as disclosed by the charge sheets suggest it is a personal matter, unconnected to the Office or his role in the Office.”
