Hundreds of supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party and some residents in the Eastern Region over the weekend joined a health walk to herald the 67th Independence Day celebration at Koforidua.
The event which saw bigwigs of the party including deputy health minister-designate, Akwasi Acquah; MP for Effiduase/Asokore , Dr. Ayew Afiriyie; MP for Kade, Alexander Agyare, Agric minister, Dr. Bryan Acheampong was organized by the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi.
Others include the Eastern regional chairman of the NPP, Jeff Konadu Addo; the NPP parliamentary candidate for New Juaben North constituency, Nana Osei-Agyei; MCE for New Juaben South and North municipalities, Messrs Ike Apaw Gyasi and Dr. Edward Asante Antwi.

The program started from Koforidua Jackson Park and ended at the venue for the Independence Day celebration, the Youth Resource Centre where it was climaxed with 'Gob3' party. Gob3 is a local delicacy made with beans, gari and ripe plantain.
Addressing the mammoth crowd, Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi
"We decided to do this to observe the Independence Day celebration and its importance. The program, I can tell you has brought a lot of benefits in the areas of economics, cultural among others hence the reason I decided to organized this health walk to create the awareness". He explained
The Eastern regional chairman of the NPP Jeff Konadu Addo also spoke about the importance of the decision by the president to host the program in the Eastern Region.
"The president decided to honour his home region before he brings his work to an end , it is, therefore, the reason he decided to bring it here so you could all benefit.
It is also to send the strong signal that the party is on the ground prepared to win the 2024 elections with Dr. Bawumia as our flagbearer." He said
A number of high-profile dignitaries are expected to grace the anniversary, including the President of Ivory Coast, Alassane Dramane Ouattara, who will be the special guest of honor.
