A member of Dr Bryan Acheampong’s campaign team and former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, has assured supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that Dr Acheampong remains committed to the unity and progress of the party, despite his defeat in the recent presidential primaries.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, Dr Adomako Kissi said the former contender has always placed the party’s interest above personal ambition.

“Bryan will always be party first. He will always be party first, and I know him for that. That has been his thing always — party, party, party,” he said.

According to him, Dr Acheampong’s campaign was driven by a desire to restore what he described as the core values and traditions that once made the NPP widely popular across the country.

“Based on his manifesto, I know that he will push us as a party to return to the true culture of patriotism, selflessness, and the things that made NPP NPP,” Dr Adomako Kissi stated.

He added that one of the central messages of Dr Acheampong’s campaign was the need for the party to reconnect with its roots and winning strategies.

“He wanted the party to go back to basics and return to the strategies that made our party win and made it likeable to all of Ghana,” he said.

Dr Adomako Kissi’s comments come amid discussions about how the NPP will manage internal relations following its presidential primaries held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia emerged winner of the contest with 110,643 votes, securing a clear majority of the 195,901 valid votes cast, according to official results collated by the Electoral Commission.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong placed second with 46,554 votes, while Dr Bryan Acheampong finished third with 36,303 votes. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum polled 1,999 votes to place fourth, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong came fifth with 402 votes.

In all, 196,462 votes were cast, with 561 ballots rejected.

Some commentators have suggested that how figures like Dr Acheampong are integrated into the party’s campaign machinery could influence the NPP’s chances in the next polls.

Dr Adomako Kissi, however, maintained that Dr Acheampong remains firmly committed to the party’s collective goal of returning to power.

“He cannot depart from that,” he said, referring to his loyalty to the party. “His focus has always been about strengthening the NPP and making it attractive to Ghanaians again.”
