Ebusuapanyin Moses Kwesi Baiden Jnr., President of the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA), the alumni group of Mfantsipim School, has made a generous donation of GH₵111,100 to the Mfantsipim School National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) winning team.

This gesture aims to honour the team’s recent success and support future scientific and academic achievements at Mfantsipim.

A sum of GH₵50,000 was presented to the headmaster of the school and the four coordinators of the NSMQ team in recognition of their guidance and commitment to student success.

Each of the three contestants who won the trophy received GH₵15,000, totaling GH₵45,000 to support their educational pursuits.

An additional 14 students, who were part of the quiz team and provided auxiliary services such as research, received GH₵1,000 each, amounting to GH₵14,000.

Three drivers also received GH₵700 each, totaling GH₵2,100.

The donation was presented during a gathering at the Margins ID Group office, where Mr. Baiden Jnr., who serves as Chairman and Founder, hosted the National Executive Committee (NEC) of MOBA and the victorious NSMQ team. This gathering was an opportunity to connect, celebrate, and express gratitude for the efforts that contributed to this remarkable achievement.

Mfantsipim School emerged as champions of the 2024 NSMQ in a dramatic contest, beating their closest competitor, St. Augustine’s College, by just one point. The victory marks their third NSMQ trophy, after winning their second a decade ago in 2014, and their first in 1999.

For their prize, the winners, Mfantsipim School, received gold medals and a cash award of GH₵70,000.

Mr. Baiden Jnr. shared the excitement within the MOBA community worldwide, noting that people voluntarily raised funds to support the team's accomplishment. According to him, the NEC acknowledges this victory and recognizes the need to allocate resources to support the school and its students in the NSMQ.

He pledged MOBA’s commitment to a holistic, comprehensive, and intentional approach to ensure continued success.

“Historically, some funding has been provided, but it’s time for a more sustainable model that creates an environment conducive to learning—not only for the quiz but also for cultivating talent in science and mathematics. We are looking to revamp the program structure to ensure sustainable, impactful results,” he added.

Mr. Baiden Jnr. emphasised that MOBA has made great strides in partnership with the school, but this partnership must be sustainable.

“It’s clear we need a robust system that won’t fall apart due to a lack of planning,” he said.

He announced that several committees, chaired by NEC members, are currently overseeing different aspects, including the NSMQ and long-term school collaboration.

He elaborated on their determination to continue the school’s 150-year tradition of creating future leaders through quality education that instills values critical for Ghana's progress.

“We’ve realized we must compete with other schools offering quality education. In the past, this legacy has produced role models both in Ghana and globally—people who inspire resilience and determination,” he said.

“We want to reignite that spirit and remind students that obstacles can be overcome. We are inspired by the vision of our founding members who, over a century ago, aimed to make quality education accessible and foster a sense of African nationalism within the Methodist-led institution.

“Our motto, rooted in the Akan language, signifies that we’re not just here for academic excellence but to instill pride and a sense of purpose in our students,” he stressed.

Looking ahead, Ebusuapanyin Baiden Jnr. said the NEC has developed a strategic business plan, of which the NSMQ is just one element of their broader vision.

He mentioned they are building facilities for sports excellence, creating an endowment fund, digitizing alumni networks, and strengthening relationships between MOBA, the school, and the Methodist Church.

NEC members informed the three contestants that they have been made brand ambassadors for the school’s 150th anniversary celebrations, which will run until 2026.

Various NEC members, who are presidents of their respective year groups, announced that they will contribute money to support the NSMQ team, with official announcements to be made at the school’s Speech and Prize Giving Day this Friday.

They encouraged the students to remain focused on their educational pursuits as role models for society.

Margins ID Group also organized a celebratory lunch to honor the achievements of the NSMQ team and reinforce MOBA’s commitment to supporting the school and its students.
