The 8pm - 4am curfew imposed on the Old Tafo Township in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region has been reviewed.

The curfew has been reviewed to 11 pm to 4 am, effective Friday, March 25, 2016.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Interior Minister, Prosper Bani.

The review comes after residents complained that the curfew was affecting business and other activities in the town.

One person died and several others sustained injuries after violent clashes between some youth in the town.

The clashes were triggered by some disagreements over a parcel of land at the Old Tafo Cemetery.

Calm returned to the town after the imposition of the curfew on the township.

It has now been reviewed but some political and traditional leaders have called on the Interior Ministry to lift the curfew entirely because total calm has returned to the town.

Joy News’ Erastus Asare Donkor reports that the Easter celebrations at churches at Old Tafo have been affected by the curfew.

The Minister for the Interior has on the advice of the Ashanti Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument reviewed the Curfew hours imposed on Old Tafo Township from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am, effective Friday, March 25, 2016.

The Minister for the Interior will continue to rely on the Ashanti Regional Security Council for updates on the situation in the area.

Government continues to express its appreciation to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area and urges them to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non- violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.

Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Old Tafo Township and surrounding areas from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon, and any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
