The National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress is accusing the governing party of lying its way into government.

Kofi Adams however, said the lies will not sustain the New Patriotic Party in power.

Speaking on The Pulse, a Joy News programme, Thursday, Kofi Adams said the new government has increased the cost of living of Ghanaians when it promised to reduce it.

He was giving his one-year assessment of the Nana Akufo-Addo led government.

Exactly a year today, Ghanaians were in queues, waiting their turn to vote to elect a president.

It was a choice to retain the John Mahama government who was seeking a third term in office or to vote in any of the opposition parties at the time which included the New Patriotic Party, Convention People’s Party, Progressive Peoples Party.

Barely three days after the vote, the Chair of the Electoral Commission Charlotte Osei announced Nana Akufo-Addo the overwhelming winner of the election.

The president was sworn into office on January 7 with a mandate to execute the many promises he and his party made to the people during the period of the campaign.

But Kofi Adams insists the NPP government has been shambolic in its first year.

He told sit-in host of the Pulse programme, Araba Koomson, the NPP was able to package lies into government but is now suffering to govern.

He was quick to point accusing fingers at the government in the wake of the electricity crisis some residents in parts of Accra were enduring.

For over six days residents in Dansoman, Achimota, have been in darkness in what workers of ECG have attributed to system challenges.

Kofi Adams insists no one else but the government has to be blamed for the crisis. When he was asked why he was blaming the government for the problem, the National Organiser retorted, "who should I blame, you"?

He said a year ago, the vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was shouting on roof tops claiming fishermen were suffering.

“Now fishermen are not only suffering; their premix is being diverted,” he stated.

He said Ghanaians were better off a year ago under John Mahama, than they are under the Nana Akufo-Addo administration today.

But the Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs appears to have a contrary opinion.

Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said the country appears to be on a path of great recovery.

“The signals are clear that we are on the right track. The economic growth is high, lending rates better, accumulation of international reserves,” he said, adding, the reserves had shot up from $4 billion to over $7 billion.

He said as a result of the planting for food and jobs, food prices are coming down.

He also applauded the government for instituting the Free SHS programme, stating even though the policy is fraught with some challenges, it is better to have the children in school than to keep them home to become deviants to the society.
