Dr Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, has said the party’s defeat in the Akwatia by-election should serve as a wake-up call to strengthen its rebuilding efforts.
Speaking on Channel One TV after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wrested the seat from the NPP, Dr Boakye-Danquah admitted the result was disappointing, especially given the party’s historical dominance in the constituency.
“This was an election we ought to have won. Losing Akwatia is not just a defeat; it is a reminder that our rebuilding process must be taken even more seriously,” he remarked.
He added that the party is still regrouping after its loss in the 2024 general elections and must approach setbacks such as Akwatia as lessons for renewal and strategy.
The by-election, which followed the death of sitting MP Ernest Kumi, saw the NDC’s Bernard Bediako claim victory with almost 3,000 votes more than the NPP’s candidate.
