The Paramount Chief of the Asante Akyem Agogo Traditional Area, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, has passed away.
The late chief, who was also the father of media personality AJ Sarpong, was a long-serving traditional ruler, lawyer, and politician, known for his significant contributions to the development of the Agogo Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region.
He reportedly died in the late hours of Thursday, March 26, 2026, after a battle with health challenges.
Born on August 11, 1938, Nana Akuoko Sarpong was enstooled as Omanhene on December 23, 1975, succeeding his uncle, Nana Kwaku Duah.
He later swore allegiance to the then Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, in January 1976.
Widely respected and affectionately called Agogomanhene, he reigned for over four decades, marking 47 years on the throne by early 2023.
Under his leadership, the Agogo Traditional Area experienced growth and prominence, particularly in agriculture, and his tenure is remembered for stability, development, and dedication to traditional governance.
His passing marks the end of an era, with many expected to celebrate his legacy of service, leadership, and commitment to his people.
Details of funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.
