Parents of convicted British girls to appeal

Parents of the two British girls who were convicted on Wednesday November 21, 2007 for possessing narcotics say they will consider the option of appealing their conviction. According to them, the teenagers were convicted because the court did not adequately consider the defence put forward by the teenagers. 16 year olds, Yasemin Vatansever and Yetunde Diya, are due to be sentenced on the 5th of December 2007, by an Accra Juvenile Court that found them guilty. The court has requested a Social Service report from the Department of Social Welfare in accordance with Ghana’s Juvenile law before it pronounces judgement.
