The Chairperson of Parliament’s Select Committee on Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, on Tuesday led members of the Committee to engage key stakeholders in the fisheries and aquaculture sector ahead of the full implementation of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, 2025 (Act 1146).
The engagement brought together officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Ghana Industrial Trawlers Association (GITA), and the Ghana Tuna Association (GTA), alongside policymakers and sector regulators.
The discussions focused on aligning stakeholder expectations and addressing practical challenges associated with the enforcement of the new legal framework.

Participants examined critical issues relating to compliance, sustainability, and the regulatory responsibilities outlined in Act 1146.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for industry players to share concerns and propose measures to ensure a smooth transition under the new law.

Dr. Jasaw emphasised the Committee’s commitment to inclusive dialogue and effective oversight, noting that stakeholder engagement was essential to achieving sustainable fisheries management.

He assured participants that Parliament would continue to work closely with all actors to ensure the successful rollout of the Act and the long-term growth of the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
