Participants at this year’s mid-year review meeting of the Mampong Municipal Health Directorate, at Mampong have expressed concerns about the delay in the issuance of registration cards to clients of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
They said it was unacceptable for clients to be issued with cards three months after registration as it prevented them from accessing health care within the shortest possible time.
The participants urged the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to review its operations and decentralise the printing of Identity (ID) cards to facilitate the process,
They criticised directive by the NHIA that the printing of the ID cards should take place in Accra, since it would result in inconveniences in the issuance of the cards at the district level.
The participants advised unregistered persons to register with the NHIS to enable them to have access to quality health care.
Mr. Felix Yankyera Donkor, Claims Officer of the Mampong Municipal Health Insurance Scheme, urged all expectant mothers to avail themselves of the pregnant women free medical treatment programme to enjoy free antenatal care at accredited health facilities.
He cautioned Ghanaians against politicising the NHIS to ensure its successful implementation.
