Acquiring a passport form will soon be free as the office implements reforms to reduce congestion and waiting time before one acquires a Ghanaians passport.
The move will also address the role of middlemen or facilitators who charge huge sums of money to acquire passport for applicants.
This was revealed to Joy News by Director of Passport, Alexander Grant, who says a pilot of the new initiative ended in December last year.
He indicated that plans are also underway to collaborate with mobile communication providers to provide update on stages of the passport acquisition for applicants.
He said the initiative also includes plans to do away with hard copies of the passport forms for electronic ones.
According to Mr Nktrakwa electronic passport forms will further make Ghana passport applications a stress-free and quick process.
“Before an applicant even comes to the passport office, the person would have filled the form online, submitted and made the necessary payments and then when the payment is done, [applicants] would be scheduled on particular date. So their presence at any of the passport application centres would be based on appointment”, he explained.
He said when the new system becomes fully operational, passport applicants’ presence at the passport office would be by appointment via email or text notification.
