The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has revised fees and charges for some services rendered to patients at the facility.

The charges take immediate effect from today June 01, 2015.

A statement from the hospital indicates that Parliament has permitted Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, to revise their fees and charges.

In view of this revision, Ghanaian adults who visit the hospital will be required to pay Ȼ63.00 for a folder needed to see a doctor.

Foreign adults on the other hand will now pay Ȼ126.00 for similar services.

However, children will pay Ȼ42.00 for folder and consultancy.

According management of the hospital, the revised fees will “enable the hospital to maintain and improve the services we provide to our patients and clients.”

In 2013, new patients were required to pay Ȼ9.00 cedis for folders.

The fees were later increased to Ȼ16.00 but Parliament ordered patients who were charged the new fees to demand a refund because the charges were illegal and unconstitutional.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Subsidiary Legislation, O. B. Amoah said Parliament was yet to approve the rates submitted by the Ministry of Finance on behalf of the hospital and 28 other government institutions, including the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), the Lands Commission and the Road Safety Commission.

Mr Amoah indicated that the L.I., which sought new rates, requires a 21-day mandatory period for the maturity of the legislative instrument.
