The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Region Police Command has advised the general public to pay attention to police security tips as the country heads towards elections.
DSP Afia Tenge said the public fails to pay attention to security tips when there is less crime report.
“Personally, what I have seen is that when we are not talking about crime, people find it very difficult to pay a little attention to any information the police are coming out with,” she said.
Speaking on the topic ‘Security ahead of elections: the role of the church’ on Joy FM, Sunday, DSP Tenge said the police share tips on their social media platforms, and people should make use of it.
She called on churches to help share the tips with their members to keep them informed.
“Almost every day, there is a security tip on our police Facebook handles and other social media platforms,” she said.
DSP Tenge also noted that there is a need for everyone to keep the police emergency numbers, 18555 and 191, and use them only when there’s trouble or the services of the police is needed.
She called on parents to write the emergency numbers on a visible place to enable children, house helps, and all around them to keep them in mind, adding that it will be of great help.
“Just in case you need that number, it is not only one person who has the opportunity of calling the police but rather anybody at all,” she advised.
She, however, cautioned against prank calls as it may affect their work.
“And whenever we write these numbers, we should caution our children not to call and prank the police as it really affects our work,” she added.
