The offices of the National Youth Employment Programme in the Upper East Region have been besieged by angry workers demanding their unpaid allowances.
The workers say they have not received their salaries for the past three months despite consistent assurances by National Co-ordinator of the programme, Mr Abuga Pele.
In a characteristic fashion some of the angry workers threatened to vote against the ruling National Democratic Congress if steps were not taken to address their concerns.
Although a month’s salary has been paid to each of them, the NYEP employees say it fell short of their expectation given that the yuletide is in the offing.
Speaking on behalf of the workers, one of them said they intended to go on a demonstration to press home their demand for the payment of the allowances due them in the past but had to hold on because of appeals by the district and regional co-ordinators of the programme.
Another one said she needed the money to purchase admission forms and pursue further studies.
She complained the situation was frustrating.
