Former Member of parliament for Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa Constituency in the Central Region, Paul Collins Appiah Ofori has paid the fine imposed on two convicted New Patriotic Party stalwarts found guilty of intentional criminal contempt.
Mr. P.C. Appiah Appiah Ofori, signed a cheque of GH¢7,000 to settle the fine barely an hour after the Supreme Court found the two NPP men -Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie; General Secretary and Hopeson Adorye; a communications team member - guilty and imposed the fine on them.
Sir John was fined 5,000 cedis and Adorye, 2,000 cedis.
They were to deposit the money with the court by the close of work Thursday or in default serve a prison sentence of six and three months, respectively.
But Mike Ocquaye Junior, a member of the legal team of the petitioners in the electoral challenge disclosed to Adom FM's Kofi Adoma in an interview that, Mr. Appiah Ofori unconditionally offered to pay the full amount.
Mr. Ocquaye said the Party has also advised Sir John, as the NPP scribe is affectionately called, to desist from making public pronouncements regarding the case being heard.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has set August 29, 2013, as date for judgment on the petition.
This was announced in Court on Wednesday August 14, after the nine-member panel of Judges, presided over by Justice William Atuguba, sought clarification from counsel for petitioners and respondents, at the court's final hearing of the petition.
