The chiefs and people of Adaklu in the Volta Region say they will not recognize Agotime-Kpetoe as the district capital for the newly created district – Adaklu-Anyigble.On a news bulleting on Citi FM, monitored by myjoyonline, they say they will not acknowledge nor accept Agotime-Kpetoe as the district capital until ‘the appropriate thing’ is done. The Adaklu-Anyibgle District was created about six years ago, but disagreements over where the capital should be located have been going on for some time now.Despite the fact that government has gone ahead to name Agotime-Kpetoe as the district capital and appointed the District Chief Executive from Adaklu, the people are dissatisfied and have pressed on with their demands for the capital to be situated at Adaklu-Waya.Speaking at a press conference in Adaklu-Waya over the weekend, Togbe Agobada, Chief of Adaklu-Anfoe accused the government’s agents of using intimidation and falsehoods to force the people to accept government’s imposition on them.He complained that agents of the government are using arm twisting to exact conformity from residents, indicating that even after the district capital was sited at Agotime-Kpetoe, no one has taken the trouble to give reasons for the that decision to the people. He categorically maintained that in so far as district and regional executives refuse to dialogue with the people, they will continue to boycott the new district capital, no matter what agents of the government do to them.He said they still recognize LI 1741 which originally named Adaklu-Waya as the district capital and therefore any other law that has been enacted to amend LI 1741 through any means would not be accepted by the people of Adaklu-Waya, in spite of the supply of free cement to the community.Emmanuel K.
