The Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Bureau (PIPS) has said it will continue with investigations into the Mallam Atta shooting, despite the reluctance of eyewitnesses to come forth with information.Officials at PIPS believe this will not hinder their inquiry into las month's shooting incident which resulted in the death of three suspected criminals.Police shot to kill three suspected armed robbers last month at a drinking spot at Mallam Atta, after a tip-off.
Some eyewitnesses told Joy News the suspects were unarmed and accused the police of cold-blooded shooting. But the police denied the accusations. In an interview with Joy News, Accra Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Freeman Tetteh, said the three suspects died during a shootout with the police. But the Commonwealth Humans Rights Initiative (CHRI) condemned the incident. CHRI noted that the Mallam Atta shooting incident raises important concerns about Police Accountability.Director General of PIPS, COP James Oppong Boanuh, however said the reluctance of the eyewitnesses to help in investigations, is likely to delay the outcome. He said PIPS needs people to come forward with information about the incident to ensure quick investigations.
