On today's show, Newsfile looked at the ruling of the Commercial Court in London directing Ghana to pay a sum of $170million in damages to the claimants; Ghana Power Generation Company (GPGC).
Government is paying such an amount for terminating a contract between itself and GPGC in 2018.
Since this development, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Energy Committee, John Jinapor, has blamed former Power Minister under the first administration of President Akufo-Addo, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko for abrogating the contract, thus causing financial loss to the state.
Mr. Jinapor further revealed that Parliament was not consulted before the Akufo-Addo-led administration terminated the contract.
But the Attorney General, Godfred Dame shifted the blame to the originators and signatories of the said contract. One of the signatories is the former Power Minister under the erstwhile John Mahama administration, Dr. Kwabena Donkor.
Host, Samson Lardy Anyenini and his guests assessed the nitty-gritty of the agreement and find out which party exactly has faulted.
Meanwhile, Mr Godred Dame has disclosed his intention to lodge a formal complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate the Power Purchasing Agreement. He added that government is engaging the management of GPGC to allow the state to pay a lesser charge as damage.
