This Saturday's edition of Ghana's favourite news analysis programme, Newsfile delved into how the electorate of Assin North voted in Tuesday's by-election, and establish whether or not the outcome foreshadowed how the general election will go in 2024.

The opposition National Democratic Congress' (NDC) James Gyakye Quayson retained the seat despite a legal tussle. Furthermore, his landslide victory has been interpreted by the NDC's National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, as a sign of general dissatisfaction with the current government.

Another issue of concern was government's indebtedness to Independent Power Producers, which could result in massive load shedding if the IPPs decide to shut down their plants.

The last issue discussed on Newsfile was the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) partnership with Torentco.

The partnership, which will see the Tema Oil Refinery leased to Torrentco for six years, has been described as opaque and lopsided against the refinery by civil society organizations in the energy sector.

Join the discussion to learn about the red flags of the duo's partnership.
