The People’s National Convention (PNC) is targeting 20 out of the 275 parliamentary seats in the 2016 general elections as it prepares to select candidates.
The General Secretary of the PNC Atik Mohammed told Joy News that “There are a number of constituencies and we are very sure and Insha Allahu we are going to win this time around. These constituencies are twenty…some we have won before, some we came [close] to winning and some with very little investments, we have the potential to win.”
The party in a congress held on 12th December in Wa elected Dr Edward Mahama as its presidential candidate for the 2016 general elections.
It issued a warning to its entire membership to desist from endorsing or assisting its former Flagbearer Hassan Ayariga who is threatening to create a breakaway party.
Atik Mohammed says the party is still strong and will unseat twenty MPs in the coming elections.
It currently holds one seat in the Upper East region, the Builsa seat represented by Alhassan Azong.
Nominations have been opened for candidates who would want to contest for parliamentary seats on the ticket of the PNC to pick forms.
According to Atik, all PNC Constituency Executives have until the end of February next year to finish parliamentary primaries.
“By the 15th of February, we are expecting that all constituencies must have done all parliamentary primaries,” he said.
