Police in the Northern Region had to call for re-enforcement Thursday evening to arrest a suspect, Mohammed Yakubu for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.
The police fired warning shots to de-escalate any potential threat to lives and property when he resisted arrest.
According to a statement issued by the police, Mohammed Amin of Ward K, a suburb of Tamale had accused Mohamed Yakubu and three others of forcefully snatching his black unregistered Loujia motorcycle.
The statement signed by the Northern Regional Crime Officer Supt Otto Acheampong said Mohammed Amin had written in his statement that he would be able to identify the suspects after which a team of officers was dispatched to that effect.
Supt Acheampong said the complainant pointed at suspect, Mr Yakubu as one of the culprits who forcibly took his motorbike from him.
But the suspect, together with a few people seated around him attempted to prevent the officers from effecting the arrest.
He said the police had to call for reinforcement triggering the deployment of Regional Crime Officer and the Regional Operations commander with personnel of the Regional SWAT unit to the scene.
The Regional Crime Officer said the suspect Yakubu Mohammed was arrested and brought to the Regional CID to assist investigations.
He added that the stolen motorcycle has been recovered as the suspect remains in police custody.
The Crime Officer sounded a word of caution to criminals that people who commit crimes would be pursued and made to face the law.
