Police in Accra say they are firmly in control of criminal activities in the capital in spite of having diverted some resources and personnel to attend to election-related incidents. However, they have cautioned the public, especially car owners, to be vigilant because car snatching is on the increase.Accra Regional Police PRO DSP Freeman Tettey tells Joy News that police patrol teams yesterday arrested a car thief who was trying to steal a taxi at Dzorwulu. He said the patrol team responded after hearing a man screaming for help. As soon as the suspect saw the patrol team approaching, he fled, but the team pursued and arrested him.Upon their return, the taxi driver, whose identity is not known, had moved away from the crime scene, he said.DSP Tettey has therefore appealed to the driver to avail himself to police investigations “because it would be in his own interest so that justice can be done.”He says that the suspect, 29-year-old Perry Panin Boadi Gyima, is currently hospitalized after sustaining injuries during his arrest. He cautioned car owners and taxi drivers to be vigilant because thieves are currently targeting cars at higher rates than usual.
